Will 2013 electric Chevy Spark be built in Korea? Those are the quoted words of a GM Korea spokesman, according to Ward’s Auto. If, however, that same question were posed to Mark Modica, associate fellow at the National Legal and Policy Center, you’ll get a different answer. Modica says he has it “on good authority” that the Spark will be built in Korea. 
According to Modica, GM North America director of communications, Greg Martin, admitted that both the conventional and electric versions of the U.S.-bound Chevy Spark will be manufactured in South Korea.
Two conflicting stories, that’s for sure. So, which one is more accurate? Well, considering that both the gasoline- and diesel-fueled Sparks are currently built in South Korea, there is some logic to the idea that the electric minicar being manufactured there, too.Without an official word from GM, we’ll keep the Spark’s country of origin a big question mark.

In August 2011, the Chevrolet Camaro moved 6,823 coupe and convertibles for an improvement of 7.9% over the same month in 2010, although that total presented a decline from the month before when GM moved 7,671 muscle cars. 
For the year, General Motors has delivered 63,255 Camaros so not only has it led 7 or the 8 months of 2011 but it also holds a very comfortable lead of almost 11,000 units over the Mustang. Based on the current sales figures, GM could stop selling the Camaro for November and December and they would still have a great chance of beating the Mustang in annual sales for the second year in a row. Before 2010, the Camaro hadn’t outsold the Mustang since 1985.
The Ford Mustang moved 5,718 units in August 2011 – an increase of 2.7% over the same month in 2010 but compared to July, the Mustang saw a decline of roughly 1,100 units. The Ford Mustang offers less power than the Camaro but thanks to Ford’s efforts in suspension and chassis technology, the Mustang is just as fast (if not faster) than its cross town rival sporting the bowtie. Even with that and the lower price in mind, the Mustang continues to trail the Camaro from month to month.

General Motors has announced that it is recalling certain Model Year 2012 Chevrolet Impalas for improper routing of the vehicle’s upper power steering hose, which could lead to melting of the hose due to its close proximity to the catalytic converter. 
The safety concern is that the melted hose may drip power steering fluid onto the vehicle’s catalytic converter, resulting in a blaze.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that 10,344 Model Year 2012 Chevy Impalas manufactured between April 19, 2011 and July 29, 2011 could potentially be affected by this recall. GM dealers will inspect vehicles to ensure the upper power steering hose is routed correctly and make any repairs or alterations free of charge.

The Detroit News is reporting that a group of Chevrolet Impala owners have filed a class-action lawsuit against General Motors over claims that the automaker addressed rear-end alignment issues on law enforcement 2007-2008 Impala models, but not vehicles owned by the public at large. 
The suit claims that a defect in the design of the rear spindle rods on the sedans causes the vehicle to wear through rear tires at an accelerated rate. Currently, only one owner is named in the litigation.

Donna Trusky of Blakely, Pennsylvania purchased an Impala in 2008 only to have the rear tires wear out in 6,000 miles. Other owners have complained of similar problems, including one driver who had a blowout due to excessive wear after just under 11,000 miles. Trusky’s dealership replaced the tires and aligned the vehicle, but didn’t mention any issue with the spindle rods. The Detroit News says that GM issued a technical service bulletin for 2008 Police Impala models but not the 423,000 civilian vehicles manufactured and sold between 2007 and the following year. 
The lawsuit aims to have GM pay for the replacement tires and fix the alignment issue. GM, meanwhile, maintains that law enforcement Impala models are inherently different than those available to the consumer.

Report: Chevy developing two-door Cruze. Thus far, the Cruze has been a big success for Chevrolet. 
Although you could chalk up part of its meteoric rise to a lack of supply from Japan, the Cruze was the best-selling compact in America last month. To build on that success, General Motors is reportedly developing a two-door coupe Cruze for future production.
Although officials have yet to confirm the Cruze coupe, reports indicate that development is already well under way, with production earmarked for the Orion, Michigan, plant where the Sonic is being built. Why not the Lordstown, Ohio plant where the Cruze sedan is built? That facility is already running at full capacity – even into overtime – just to meet demand.
It would be interesting to see the Cruze spawn a coupe variant, particularly since two-door versions of the Cobalt and the Cavalier that preceded it, lamentable though they were, proved popular among teenagers as first cars. We particularly miss the Cobalt SS, which was available in both coupe and sedan bodystyles before the model was discontinued, as it offered one of the best performance to price ratios on the market.

Based on my experience with the Volt, I thought the car felt as high-quality as a Prius. That’s a pretty subjective measure, but to me, the doors closed with a nice solid sound, road noise was well-muffled and the cabin had a quality feel. I would have liked a nicer fabric on the seats. Leather is an option, but my test car just didn’t have it. The plastics felt and looked good. I especially liked the center stack. It had a cool design, and the integrated buttons made it easy to clean.

Official: 2012 Chevrolet Cruze gets fuel economy bump, more standard equipment. 
We already told you that the six-speed automatic-transmission-equipped Chevrolet Cruze is getting a two-mile-per-gallon fuel economy bump in 2012. General Motors has made the news official, and the automaker has also revealed a few upgrades for the upcoming model year.
On the 2011 Cruze, a $525 Connectivity Plus Cruise package was available. The kit featured Bluetooth connectivity, a USB port, steering wheel-mounted controls for the audio, cruise control and leather on the tiller and shift knob. That equipment will now come standard on the 2012 Cruze 1LT and Eco.
In addition to the upgraded kit for the 1LT and Eco, all trims of the 2012 Cruze will get remote keyless entry. Other highlights: Keyless start has been added to the 2LT and LTZ; a seven-inch touchscreen display on the Eco, 2LT and LTZ; and fog lamps on the LTZ trim.
