Chevrolet‘s new midsize TrailBlazer utility vehicle for global markets arrives in Thailand in early 2012, but officials for the brand told Inside Line there are no immediate plans to sell it in the U.S. 
At a sneak preview here Wednesday, Chevrolet released a teaser image of the 2013 TrailBlazer and said the vehicle would be “built on a new global midsize platform developed by GM do Brasil.” That platform is the same one that underpins the redesigned Chevrolet Colorado pickup, which also was developed at GM’s Brazilian unit. Chevy also confirmed it’s a full truck frame, which makes the TrailBlazer a traditional SUV, not a crossover like the Ford Explorer and Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Officials declined to reveal any further details on the new TrailBlazer. But two days earlier Chevrolet released more information on the midsize Colorado pickup that is just going on sale in Thailand and eventually will be built and sold in the U.S.
Chevrolet said the new Colorado pickup “is the product of a five-year, $2-billion vehicle program developed across five continents for customers in more than 60 markets around the world.” The new midsize platform is being offered in rear- and all-wheel-drive variants, and is designed to accommodate both gasoline and diesel engines.
In Detroit, officials told Inside Line the new TrailBlazer initially will be built and sold in South America and Asia, with Thailand as the first market.
The TrailBlazer will make its public debut in November at the 2011 Dubai Auto Show.

Long before the first U.S. soldier laid a boot on Iraq soil in the first Gulf War, General Motors planned to build a manufacturing facility in the country. According to The Detroit News, the years since haven’t been entirely kind to the automaker’s sales efforts in Iraq. 
That’s no shock given America’s reputation in the Middle East nation, but its prospects are beginning to look up. Whereas GM once trailed even Renault in sales, the company managed to move 35,000 vehicles last year. Not bad considering the entire new vehicle market in Iraq totaled just 115,000 in 2011.
GM’s sales largely consisted of SUVs and pickup trucks (like the locally available version of the Colorado seen above), though The Detroit News notes that some Chevrolet and Cadillac sedans have sold as well, too. That’s particularly impressive given that Iraqi drivers aren’t required to have insurance and kidnappers in the country have been known to favor those who drive high-dollar luxury vehicles. 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco Review.
Adding to the car’s perception of size from the driver’s seat is a narrow rear windscreen and special mirrors that Chevy will tell you help considerably in achieving a low 0.30 coefficient of drag, but which also taper off into a point, thereby limiting your view. 
It’s obvious from these gripes that Chevy did more than just borrow the Camaro’s taillights when designing this car.
Outside it’s handsome enough, but no more minimalist a styling update than the new Toyota Camry. There’s a notable bangle-butt rear end and lots of sheetmetal behind the rear doors, making it look substantial when parked. That trunk design, when paired with sloping rear roof, does give the car a Volt-like appearance and we’d argue the Malibu’s best side is its backside.
Inside there are notable Camaro elements borrowed as well, from the square gauges to some silvery gloss plastic around the center stack, which we’re at least glad is used much more sparingly here than in the Camaro. Much of the buttons and controls are standard fare, from the all-too familiar stereo buttons and stalks to the Cruze-esque steering wheel – something we quite like. It’s one of the few efforts made to shrink the car’s feeling of size. 
Perhaps the car’s target demographic will disagree, but we were horrified by the faux wood trim on the center stack and doors. The chrome trim was equally old-manish. At night, the Malibu’s interior is transformed, however, with plenty of ambient lighting giving a polish glow to the cabin and controls.
The standard cloth seats are actually quite pleasing to the eye, though the optional leather is a reminder that GM still buys its cows from the Fisher Price farm.

The 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco will start at $25,995 when it goes on sale in early 2012, including the destination fee. Chevrolet says in a statement the 2013 Malibu Eco should get 26/38 mpg city/highway using General Motors’ eAssist mild hybrid system. 
The gas-only 2012 Malibu gets an EPA-estimated 22/33 mpg city/highway with the four-cylinder engine and 17/26 mpg with the V6. The eAssist system is already in use in GM vehicles like the Buick LaCrosse and Buick Regal. It uses a lithium-ion battery, electric motor, regenerative brakes and a start-stop function to maximize fuel economy. The Detroit News says the battery is about the size of a shoe box and it will “aid the engine in certain driving conditions.”
The 2013 Malibu Eco’s Chevy-estimated fuel economy is not as good as dedicated midsize hybrids, like the Toyota Camry Hybrid and Ford Fusion Hybrid, but is better than gas-only affordable midsize cars, like the Honda Accord and Hyundai Sonata.
The Chevrolet Malibu is being fully redesigned for the 2013 model year, and the Eco model is new to the next-generation Malibu lineup. USA Today reports that the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco will be the only 2013 Malibu model available at launch in the first quarter of 2012, while the gas-only 2013 Malibu will start production in the summer of 2012. “Until then, Chevy will continue selling the 2012 gas-engine models,” USA Today reports.

“The 2012 Corvette Daytona Prototype was developed by a multifaceted effort involving Chevrolet, Corvette designers, Pratt & Miller and Grand-Am. Chevrolet also worked closely with chassis builders Riley, Coyote and Dallara,” said Mark Kent, General Motors Racing Director, in a statement.
Four teams will run the Corvettes, the No. 90 Spirit of Daytona Racing, No. 10 SunTrust Racing, No. 99 GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing, and the No. 5 and No. 9 Action Express Racing teams. The new race car will participate in testing at Daytona on Wednesday, Nov. 16. The Corvette Racing crew last won Daytona with its C5-R in 2001. While today’s minivans offer levels of comfort and performance on par with sedans, the Chevrolet Astro was a minivan from a different era. Born in the mid-1980s when full-size Chevy vans were still in style, the Astro modeled the looks of its bigger brothers. It also shared their tough body-on-frame construction and rear-wheel-drive layout. Compared to front-wheel-drive, car-based minivans, the Chevy Astro was a true workhorse with considerable towing and hauling capabilities. 
However, it was nowhere close to more modern minivans when it came to day-to-day convenience and driving ease. Its old-school, box-on-wheels design located the engine within close proximity of the passenger compartment, resulting in cramped quarters for the driver and front passenger, and high cabin noise levels. Will 2013 electric Chevy Spark be built in Korea? Those are the quoted words of a GM Korea spokesman, according to Ward’s Auto. If, however, that same question were posed to Mark Modica, associate fellow at the National Legal and Policy Center, you’ll get a different answer. Modica says he has it “on good authority” that the Spark will be built in Korea. 
According to Modica, GM North America director of communications, Greg Martin, admitted that both the conventional and electric versions of the U.S.-bound Chevy Spark will be manufactured in South Korea.
Two conflicting stories, that’s for sure. So, which one is more accurate? In August 2011, the Chevrolet Camaro moved 6,823 coupe and convertibles for an improvement of 7.9% over the same month in 2010, although that total presented a decline from the month before when GM moved 7,671 muscle cars. 
For the year, General Motors has delivered 63,255 Camaros so not only has it led 7 or the 8 months of 2011 but it also holds a very comfortable lead of almost 11,000 units over the Mustang. Based on the current sales figures, GM could stop selling the Camaro for November and December and they would still have a great chance of beating the Mustang in annual sales for the second year in a row. Before 2010, the Camaro hadn’t outsold the Mustang since 1985.
The Ford Mustang moved 5,718 units in August 2011 – an increase of 2.7% over the same month in 2010 but compared to July, the Mustang saw a decline of roughly 1,100 units. The Ford Mustang offers less power than the Camaro but thanks to Ford’s efforts in suspension and chassis technology, the Mustang is just as fast (if not faster) than its cross town rival sporting the bowtie. Even with that and the lower price in mind, the Mustang continues to trail the Camaro from month to month.
